Birds of California

California offers an extraordinary range of habitat from coastline and mountains, to deserts and redwood forests.  California birding checklists include about 600 species.

The high Sierra Mountains provide habitat for many birds.  Species that can be found in the Sierras include Warblers, Tundra Swans, hawks, owls, ducks, bluebirds, vireos, Summer Tanagers, and Indigo Buntings.

Bodega Bay, in Sonoma County is a good place to view a variety of shorebirds. Migrating shorebirds arrive  in late summer and migratory land birds pass through the area in the fall.
